I just found this picture I took from Bill Hamilton on a canoe on our first trip to Igarape Bare at the Amana Sustainable Development Reserve. At that time we were conducting studies in the area so that we could propose Amana as a protected area in Central Amazonia. In 1998 Amana Sustainable Reserve was finally created with 2.35 million hectares, so far the largest in Brazilian Amazonia. At the moment we are in the implementation stage of this reserve.
